16 April 2004, from a friend ”without face” who I knew from cyberspace

If, My Love

If my words were a trickling stream,
I’d send you a raging river.

If my thoughts were shooting stars,
I’d send you meteor showers.

If glances were flickers of light,
I’d send you lightning bolts.

If my smiles were waves,
I’d send you the sea

If hugs were warm summer nights,
I’d send you the month of July

If my touches were warm wind,
I’d send you a year without winter.

If embraces were anchors
I’d send you a giant redwood,

If my lips were lollypops
I’d send you the candy store

If kisses were raindrops,
I'd send you a downpour.

If my body was a blanket,
I’d send you a mink.

If my love was as pure as a white swan,
I’d send you crystal clear pond.

But ‘ifs’ are a bit iffy
Thoughts gone in a jiffy
Leaving me a wolf, with one red eye,
Sending you a howling, crazy cry.

Wood Walking

Long ago
I tried to ruffle your leaves
Rattle your truck
Make you smell coffee
And pee in a cup.
Tried to get you out of bed
Sit you on top of the table
Eat prunes and bread
Joining the living, not the dead.

But you carry on your sleepy slumber
Like walking lumber
To a saw blade’s path
That will cut you in half.

Are you in a forest fog?
Are you on poppy seed?
Did you hypnotize your eyes?
So you don’t see demise

You don’t see
The rotting wood
Where leaches crawl
And peckers maul.

Walking to a saw blade
Talking to the clouds
Looking at black shade
Hearing nothing at all.

The end is near
Cry, loud as you can.
Give the wind the finger
Let your scent linger.

Death is coming,
Make your motions
Show your left tit
It won’t matter a bit.
